Relaxation proposal for .ie domain rules

The Irish Registry has announced the possibility of relaxing registration rules for .ie domains.

At the moment, the registration of an Irish .ie domain is based on the correspondence (or good similarity) between the domain name and the name of the company or registered trademark (preferably European or International).

The simplification proposal consists in the abolition of this registration rule, with is too restrictive, as well are penalising for applicants who wish to have an online presence even before the physical one, such as start-ups.

The other two registration rules, which are more easily satisfied, would remain unchanged. So, it will still be necessary to demonstrate a connection with Ireland, and for the applicant to prove his or her identity.
